The mission of Calloway County Schools is to empower all students academically, socially, and personally to be lifelong learners capable of thinking, solving problems, and serving as responsible citizens ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
The Murray Independent School System proudly proclaims "a tradition of excellence," extending back over a hundred years, when, in 1872, the first "Murray High School" was built in the center of town by a group of citizens concerned about the education of young people. The school district has been recognized repeatedly for academic excellence and for its positive learning environment.
With only three schools, the Murray school system is a small one, a fact which contributes immeasurably to the education it is able to provide. It also benefits from its location in an education-minded community that has always been supportive of its schools. There are parent-teacher organizations in each school, plus booster clubs for band and athletics, and an active school-business partnership program. More than a thousand parents and community members contribute their time, energies, and talents as school volunteers every year.
