The Coshocton County Career Center provides cutting-edge Career-Technical training for high school juniors and seniors. Students attending the Career Center remain students at their home high schools and graduate with their fellow students. They are able to maintain their affiliation with extracurricular athletics, clubs and activities, and, in many cases, even take classes together at their home high school. The Career Center boasts a 99% graduation rate and a positive placement rate of over 90% each year. (Positive placement indicates the number of students who successfully find employment within their respective career-technical field of study and/or who go on to attend a 2 or 4-year technical college or join a branch of the U.S. military.) The Career Center provides a two-year program in ten career-technical areas. They include: Automotive Technology, Building Trades, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Career Skills Investigation, Early Childhood Education, IT Electronics, Health Careers, Natural Resources and Metal Fabrication. Seniors are also invited to participate in early release programs, which allow them to participate in paid-internship work experiences off-campus, building employability skills and on-the-job work experience. In addition, academic options, including concurrent college enrollment, and a full suite of college-prep academics are also offered at the Career Center.
In 2006, the Opportunity School became an independent community school designed to meet the needs of at-risk students ages 16-21, dropouts and other non-traditional students and provide them a chance to attain a high school diploma. The Opportunity School students must meet the same criteria for graduation as other high school students in the state of Ohio. Our students receive a diploma upon completion of their academic coursework and passage of the Ohio Graduation Tests. Our non-CORE courses classes includes JOG (Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates) Grads, Art, Life Skills, Parenting and Nutrition, Computer Applications and Media Creation and Financial Literacy.
