Welcome to Cowan Jr.-Sr. High School, Home of the Blackhawks. We are located, six miles south of downtown Muncie, in southern Delaware County. We are extremely proud to have recently been named a Four Star School by the Indiana Department of Education. Although we are a small suburban school, we strive to offer a challenging and varied curriculum for all students. At Cowan, we currently offer several Advanced Placement (AP) classes. We also offer a distance learning class and enjoy a solid working relationship with nearby Ball State University. We offer dual credit courses with Ivy Tech, which is only four miles away. A well rounded education, provided in a caring and concerned atmosphere, is the cornerstone of our school. At Cowan people really do care about each other. Our faculty, staff and parents are very committed to providing the best possible education to our students. Along with a strong curriculum, we offer several extra curricular opportunities. Our academic teams have faired quite well in competition, our band has had great success at the State Fair Band Contest for many years and the Visual Communications class annually puts out a great yearbook. Our volleyball team has been to the state finals for four times in the last five years and our baseball team finished runner up in the 2008 state tournament.
Daleville Community Schools is committed to equal opportunity and does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, sex, religion, and national origins including limited English proficiency, in any employment or educational opportunity. Although many institutions within society contribute to the development of an educated person, it is the school which is the only agency that is specifically charged with a formal and legal responsibility for the education of each student. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the schools within the Delaware Community School Corporation shall function under a basic philosophy which recognizes that education is a continuous process which provides for the optimum mental, physical, emotional, social, moral, and group, and individualized instruction shall be placed upon the acquisition of knowledge, concepts, skills, and values.
The focus of the school effort shall be the interaction of the student and the teacher in the learning process, RECOGNIZING PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IS AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT IN OUR EDUCATION PROCESS AND PROGRAMS. The Board of School Trustees recognizes that the optimum education growth of the students will be directly influenced by the ability of the Delaware Community School Corporation to provide and maintain the highest caliber of professional and non-professional personnel, facilities, equipment, and materials which may be legally and financially feasible.
The rapid changing world in which we live and the continual expansion of the learning process make it imperative that an environment be promoted which assures the professional staff the freedom to develop and maintain a vital curriculum and the opportunity to grow professionally.

Established by the Indiana legislature in 1988, the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities is operated by Ball State University as a school devoted to the education of students who demonstrate extraordinary intellectual ability and a commitment to scholarship. The philosophy of the Indiana Academy originates from the proposition that a society in which justice is a prime concern ordinarily tries to provide educational opportunities appropriate to the expressed ability and potential development of as many sorts of citizens as possible.
To the extent that a society entitles persons with this right, it justly expects that they will subsequently function as good citizens, discharging their public as well as private responsibilities with distinction. As a consequence of its enabling legislation and basic philosophy, the Indiana Academy is dedicated to inspiring and challenging highly gifted young adults to reach their full personal potential within the framework of the common good.
The mission of Muncie Community Schools is to provide a quality educational environment that allows every student to maximize his or her potential and, upon graduation, possess the basic skills necessary to be a positive, productive, contributing member of society.
