ADELAIDE L. SANFORD CHARTER SCHOOL
The mission of the Adelaide L. Sanford Charter School is to ensure that young people in Newark reach their highest educational potential through a standards based curriculum; a school culture of achievement and a continuous improvement; and a nurturing environment - all of which will enable our students to become Newark's future leaders and core professionals. We are both African and patriotic Americans. Our ancestors have diligently and heroically fought in every U.S. war, and we too must diligently uphold the American dream of freedom, justice, and equality for all. We are humanitarian leaders in the multicultural dream. Dr. Ivan Van Sertima of Rutgers University taught us that: "We were here before Columbus." Dr. Martin Luther King says that "your culture is your sense of being, and your civilization is your technology." ... to be as our creator made us, with a mind to study to show ourselves approved, African in body, moral in soul, and renewed in spirit. As dedicated Americans we unite our country with these humanitarian global interests in a world that is getting smaller and smaller due to advancements in space age technology. We strive to equip our children with the tools that would enable them to pursue the American Dream whilst being rooted in a strong sense of self and self worth.

CALDWELL-WEST CALDWELL PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Mission Statement - Caldwell-West Caldwell Public School District :2010 PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION/DISTRICT MISSION STATEMENT-To prepare pupils for the world of 2010, the Caldwell-West Caldwell School District, in a collaborative partnership with family, community, and school, will provide the essential resources, opportunities, and experiences that will foster as well as challenge all pupils to achieve their greatest potential as lifetime self-directed learners and responsible, productive citizens. It is the expectation of this school district that all pupils achieve the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards at all grade levels."The Caldwell-West Caldwell Public School K-12 school district is dedicated to providing its students with a continuum of quality educational experiences directed at producing well-rounded citizens who are independent learners. Each of the district's six schools is currently involved in a five-year plan, begun during the 2004-05 school year, to evaluate, revise, and develop instructional strategies for all curriculum areas. Paramount to this project is the aligning of each specific curriculum, kindergarten through grade 12, with the approved New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. The Standards describe what all students should know and be able to do upon completion of a thirteen-year public school education. The Standards define the results expected to ensure that all students achieve the expectations. The Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools have utilized the New Jersey Standards as well as National Standards and standards published by recognized professional organizations as resources in answering the following "key questions":Is the current curriculum providing students with essential and timely knowledge, skills, and abilities that we want them to accomplish? Is the current curriculum aligned with the most recent New Jersey State Core Content Curriculum Standards? Is the current curriculum aligned with the most recent New Jersey State Core Content Curriculum Standards? Is the current curriculum meeting the needs of diverse and differentiated learners? The much anticipated "VISION 2010" initiative was launched in 2001, with a representative Steering Committee of district parents, teachers, administrators, Board members, and community residents developing the future direction of our schools for the next generation of Caldwell-West Caldwell students. The district continues to make investments in new technology that are continually implemented. During the school year, intensive staff development workshops are preparing teachers for the challenges of the new and expanded technology program. A continuing strength of the Caldwell-West Caldwell School District is the continuity of instruction that enables James Caldwell High School to build upon the strong foundation developed at the elementary and middle schools. This constancy of purpose has allowed the district to consistently graduate students fully prepared for the next step in their adult lives.he "Vision 2010" initiative will be reviewed throughout the 2010 school year to evaluate its success and determine the future direction of the school district.

ESSEX COUNTY VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL SCHOOLS
I am pleased to inform parents, students, graduates and friends that all four Essex County Vocational Technical Schools are now recognized as “high performing” places of learning. This status was achieved among many other honors during the past year. Bloomfield Tech continues to rank among the top urban schools in the country as this Blue Ribbon School exceeded its performance goals for the eighth consecutive year. North 13th Street Tech was recognized by the National Staff Development Council for its teachers collaboration to boost learning and achievement. Newark Tech was ranked among the top twenty schools in the United States by the Council of Vocational Technical Directors and West Caldwell Tech was the single School Improvement Grant School in New Jersey to achieve its Annual Yearly Progress Goals. This year more opportunities for growth are on the horizon. The district is seeking ways to make student progress information more readily available to parents through online availability of grades and student progress. West Caldwell Tech is offering an extended day program for student support that promises to be a model for learning enrichment. At the same time plans for the renovation of Newark Tech are underway and plans for a new state-of-the-art high school are moving forward.Once again, I welcome your ideas for improving how we serve our students as the demand for places in each of the four schools increases. Please continue to ensure that your students are in school every day and on time. Together we are and we will continue to make a positive difference in our students’ lives.Michael A. ESSEX FELLS SCHOOL DISTRICT
Essex Fells School Mission Statement-The Essex Fells School is a very special public elementary school enrolling boys and girls in preschool through the sixth grades. Students enjoy small classes and a total school population of approximately two hundred and fifty. The size of the school is a wonderful asset as it allows a strong sense of community and offers teachers and students many opportunities to form bonds of collegiality, identification and support. LIVINGSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS
District Philosophy-We, the Livingston School district, believe that every child has the ability to learn and the right to an education. Each child brings to the educational process his or her unique interests, abilities, and talents. Children learn and grow best in an atmosphere that is open, nurturing, and responsive to their needs. The purpose of the Livingston School District is to provide an educational environment that affords students opportunities to acquire competencies that will serve them as individuals and as members of society. This environment promotes the development of ethical values and decision-making abilities so that our students can be meaningful contributors to society and lead personally satisfying lives. It fosters the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, cultural, and aesthetic development of our students.A sound education prepares each child for the varied roles to be assumed throughout life. Since family patterns are becoming increasingly fluid and complex, each student needs to understand family roles and relationships and act as an effective family member through learning cooperation, empathy, decision making, and responsibility. These family attributes should be extended to society as well. By understanding the form and function of the economic system and the importance of the individual’s role in it, the student will become a responsible producer and a discriminating consumer. To be an effective citizen, each student must understand political principles and processes and acquire the individual and group decision-making skills necessary to adapt to our complex, rapidly-changing technological society. In order to function successfully in this society, students must acquire a broad range of knowledge and skills, and apply both to lifelong experiences. Learning to think begins with the acquisition and application of basic skills as well as knowledge of the physical, biological, and social sciences. Skillful thinking enables students to solve problems and communicate effectively. This foundation of knowledge and skills supports and enhances students’ ability to prepare for and be successful in a career. Learning in all areas can be stimulated and reinforced by exploration and appreciation of experiences in the creative arts. Knowledge and skills cannot be isolated from attitudes and behavior patterns. All of these are critical to students’ awareness of their own physical capabilities and the acquisition of a sense of responsibility for personal and public health. The educational process must be complemented by a love of learning which encourages life-long growth.
