Brownstown Unit School District #201
The technology mission of Brownstown Community Unit School District #201
is to provide current technology to educate and encourage
students, teachers, and community to develop
practical, technological skills which will prepare
them for change in the 21st century.
The district provides a comprehensive Pre-K through 12 core curriculum that is aligned with the Illinois learning standards. Technology is integrated into the curriculum; computer labs are located in the high school and grade school. Programs in college prep, vocational education, special education, pre-school education, Title 1, after school tutorials and summer school programs are offered. The district also operates a cooperative work program.
The district operates two separate schools, one elementary school, and one Junior/Senior High school. The district has an enrollment of 485 students in grades Pre-kindergarten through twelfth with both the student and staff population being primarily white, non-Hispanic, with English as the common language. Of the 485 students in the district, there are 276 at the Grade School and 209 at the Jr/Sr High School. Of all these there are 204 district students on free or reduced lunches. Most of the teachers (60%) are from the area or have family ties to St. Elmo and have anywhere from 2 to almost 30 years in teaching with an average of 13.2 years.
The district has done very well in achieving high test scores on the ISAT, PSAE and ACT tests. The scores and data breakdown can be viewed in the district report card from the state on this site by clicking: http://www.stelmo.org/reportcard/reportcard.pdf Please remember that you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these pages. Adobe can be obtained by following the link provided on the main page of this site. Additionally, both schools comprising District #202 are reaching the Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) goals as required by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law.
The Technology Program and related services have grown substantially over the last few years. Today, there are network and Internet connected computers in every classroom and several labs in both schools. Each teacher and many staff members have access to e-mail, resource sharing technologies, TV and VCRs. Some rooms have DVDs, scan converters and data projectors and other presentation equipment so teachers can incorporate them into their lesson plans. The district also publishes a news letter at various times through out the year and parents and students have access to online D/F lists and homework pages from the Jr/Sr High School.
