Highland County School Districts
-
Perched amongst the scenic vistas of the Appalachian Mountains, you will find Highland County Public Schools. Virginia's smallest division, Highland operates with just over 200 students in grades K-12. Although small in numbers, Highland schools continuously achieve with passing scores on VA's SOL tests which allows us to attain Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Highland was only one of seven divisions statewide to have all schools meet AYP for the 2009-2010 school year. In 2010, Highland High School was awarded the US DOE Blue Ribbon Status. Highland was the only public high school in the state to receive this status that year. Highland's successes can be attributed to the involvement of the entire community, parents, and faculty to help our students to achieve. Mission Statement: The Highland County Public Schools shall provide every student with the opportunity to a quality education that prepares them for post-secondary education or technical training, and/or employment; operate effectively and efficiently, and in accordance with local and state expectations, and collaborate with home and other agencies to facilitate recreational activities, educational activities, and economic development activities for the community.
