In 1973 the General Assembly passed Act 279 which established a school district within the Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC). The purpose as stated in the act was to provide “elementary, secondary, and vocational technical education to all persons incarcerated in the Department of Correction facilities who are not high school graduates, irrespective of age...” The Board of Correction and Community Punishment serves as the school board for the School District.
The mission of the Dollarway School District is to guide its student's through the process of learning, problem-solving, and socialization skills in a comfortable climate maximizing the potential for success in all grades. We believe that children learn best in a climate that encourages positive attitudes, effort and good work habits, which are achieved through collaboration efforts of educators, parents and the community.
The district is dedicated to meeting the challenges as set forth by big businesses and corporations to be accountable, transparent, and cognizant of the choice options parents have. Additionally, the district and schools have adopted a parental involvement plan required by Act 397 to enhance school, parent, and community relations as they endeavor to accomplish the goals of improving students’ achievement in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies, as well as the district’s attendance and graduation rates. Each school has identified a parent facilitator to organize and manage the parent involvement project.
MISSION: To provide a well-rounded curriculum that will allow all students the opportunity to raise
their achievement levels in literacy, math, and science, become productive members of society,
and live healthy lives.
