The Iroquois-Kankakee (I-KAN) Regional Office of Education celebrated the academic accomplishments of 148 area seniors who were named Illinois State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC).
I-KAN hosted a banquet for students and their families at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at the Quality Inn in Bradley. The event was co-sponsored by Kankakee Community College.
Illinois State Scholar winners rank in the top ten percent of high school seniors from 749 different high schools across the state. Selection is based on SAT, ACT and/or Prairie State Achievement Exam scores, and/or class rank at the end of the junior year.
“The Regional Office always looks forward to this event,” said Gregg Murphy, Regional Superintendent of Iroquois and Kankakee County schools. “It provides a venue where we can all come together – parents, guardians and educators -- to celebrate the academic successes of our students.”
The primary purpose of the Kankakee Area Career Center is to meet vocational/ technical education needs of the regional high school students. The underlying function of the career center is to prepare students to select viable career paths and to obtain the training and skills essential for continuing education and/ or the job market.
We believe that because gifted learners have specific educational and social needs Kankakee District #111 is responsible for providing educational programming and personal support in a manner that best serves those specific needs. Furthermore, we believe that qualified students of all socio-economic, cultural, and racial backgrounds are entitled to equal access to programs for the gifted.
The mission of the Manteno Public Schools is to provide all students with a safe environment for quality life-long educational experiences. These experiences shall nurture one's academic, social, emotional and physical needs, enabling them to be productive members of society.
