HUTCHINSON PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
Hutchinson Public Schools are committed to continuous improvement in all areas of the district’s school operations. Our ultimate goal is to deliver the best education possible for all students. There is no greater end than high student achievement and life-long success for our students. At the heart of our continuous school improvement model are our core values. The following goals and associated strategies have been strategically developed, based on our core values, to assist us in our mission. These strategies will be implemented, monitored, adjusted when necessary, and measured for growth. This school improvement model will allow for specific focus on areas of concern and a deep understanding and alignment of short-term and longitudinal results. Effective change and school improvement takes commitment and teamwork. School board and administrative leadership, school staff support, and the students and stakeholders of the district need to see the value of a world class education system. School improvement initiatives force us to think creatively, take responsible professional risks and be innovative. Public education has been regarded as the great equalizer and is an essential value of our democracy. It is of great importance that we have high expectations of all students regardless of race, color, gender or income.

NEW DISCOVERIES MONTESSORI ACADEMY
New Discoveries Montessori Academy’s primary purpose is to improve pupil learning. This purpose will be achieved in the following ways: Increased Learning Opportunities New Discoveries Montessori Academy increases learning opportunities for students by providing another choice in elementary education in the Hutchinson Area. This choice is grounded in the Montessori philosophy and pedagogy. This is especially desirable for those students that attend the local Montessori preschool and would like to continue their educational studies in that model. Through the use of the Montessori materials, students will receive hands-on learning experiences where children touch, make discoveries, and deeply understand complex concepts. The materials allow concrete understanding of concepts helpful for understanding abstract principles, are self-teaching and self-correcting, have multiple levels of challenge and can be used at different developmental levels. New Discoveries Montessori Academy designs classrooms utilizing the direction of the Montessori “prepared environment”. We believe that the larger community is officially part of our classroom environment. Field trips, also called “Going Out”, are a vital part of children’s personal, social, and intellectual development. Small groups of children plan and go on supervised trips all around our greater community. With Audubon Center of the North Woods, our sponsor, there are many environmental applications for our students. They offer residential environmental education experiences to schools with a full array of adventure programming including a wildlife barn, maple syruping shack, ropes course, hiking explorations, and wall climbing. Students at New Discoveries Montessori Academy participate in these unique environmental experiences.
