The International School of Louisiana (ISL) was founded in 2000 by a group of parents eager to make a contribution toward improving the quality of public education in Louisiana. The school’s founders envisioned a public school offering a foreign language-based academic program with a global perspective. By offering a new choice in public education, ISL hopes to generate educational opportunities of the highest caliber for all students in Louisiana.
ISL was Louisiana’s first language immersion charter school and is the only Louisiana school to be named a “Charter School of the Year” by the Center for Education Reform, the nation’s leading education advocacy organization. From their first day of school, students are taught core academic subjects in either French or Spanish. At ISL children learn a second language naturally, through everyday conversation and classroom instruction.
The mission of the International School of Louisiana is to provide a challenging education emphasizing language immersion, international awareness, the celebration of diversity and community responsibility.
The mission of the New Orleans Public School System is to provide quality learning environments that promote academic excellence and engage the family and community in the support of student achievement.
