The JCSD is the 13th largest school district in the state of Iowa and the fourth largest employer in Johnston. The school district employs roughly 840 people, which includes 433 certified teachers and operates with a general fund budget of 58 million dollars. The district covers 40 square miles and serves the community of Johnston as well as parts of Urbandale, Des Moines and the surrounding rural areas of Grimes and Granger. In addition, Johnston Community Education provides before/after school childcare, preschool, recreation and adult education programs.

The Urbandale Community School District serves approximately 3,700 students in six elementary schools, one middle school and one comprehensive high school. We serve an increasingly diverse student population where 42 different languages are spoken. We believe this diversity is a strength, as it provides all students the opportunity to learn with and from students from around the world.
