Hudspeth Regional Center is one of five state operated comprehensive regional facilities for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities operated under the administration of the Department of Mental Health, Bureau of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
Hudspeth Regional Center, a 120 acre campus, located in Rankin County, Mississippi is a licensed Intermediate Care Facility for Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ICF/MR) which provides 24 hour care. Approximately 285 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities reside on the facility campus. In addition, approximately 1400 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities receive an array of services through the facility's Community Services Division. All services and programs are based on a interdisciplinary team approach to program development and implementation.
Mississippi State Hospital is a publicly funded psychiatric treatment facility operated under the direction of the Mississippi Department of Mental Health. The hospital is located on a 350-acre campus in Whitfield, MS, 15 miles southeast of Jackson, the state capital. Mississippi State Hospital operates 504 licensed psychiatric beds and is accredited by the Joint Commission. The facility also includes 423 licensed nursing home beds and provides a variety of community service programs.
With a staff of approximately 500, Pearl Public School District takes pride in its efforts to provide a superior level of education to a diverse population of approximately 3,800 students. Throughout its history, Pearl's academic and extracurricular programs have received numerous accolades. One of its finest was receiving the Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2005. Two of the district's schools, Northside Elementary School and Pearl High School, have been recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools by the United States Department of Education. Approximately 20 percent of the certified staff is National Board Certified.
