NEWMARKET SAU OFFICE
District Mission Statement-The Newmarket School District is committed to the highest standards of quality education. We ensure a safe and successful learning community. We embrace diversity and respond to the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of every child. We strive to work with the broader community to ensure that students develop lifelong skills enabling them to be contributing and productive members of society. The Newmarket School District continues with their mission to provide to the students the highest standards of quality education. In working to achieve this goal there have been a number of successful initiatives implemented in the school system. Four major themes have been entwined into the work in the district. Throughout the district, the use and interpretation of data is assisting to drive change in instruction and learning. Assessment tools are being utilized to measure student learning and effectiveness of the curriculum. This year data has been gleaned from a number of sources including the Aims Web based reading inventory and the New Hampshire Assessment Test. In addition, the district will be utilizing the Northwest Educational Assessment, a standardized test to provide additional information in the core subject areas. Classroom teachers are using data to assist with the decisions around instruction. The result of the 2006 state assessment test at grades three, six and ten indicate that at all grade levels the students met the adequate yearly progress as established by the No Child Left Behind Legislation. In addition to the goals for data driven change, the district is immersed in an evaluation of the educational facilities in the community. The Newmarket School Board has charged a community based facilities committee to investigate, gather input and evaluate the needs of the district in terms of appropriate learning environments. To date, the community has participated in a survey and educational space requirements have been evaluated. During the year, recommendations will be presented by the facilities committee for further analysis by the community. The final goal for the year will be to continue to link the schools to the broader community, ensuring that students have an opportunity to provide service to the community as well as the citizens having opportunities to participate in school events. During the last year a collaborative effort was developed with parents, the Newmarket Recreation Department and school district to establish a support program to assist students in their integration into the community. Through the support of several grants, a Friendship Facilitator was hired to assist students. The community connections are very important in Newmarket and the business partnerships that have been established are another means of creating a positive learning environment for the students

The mission of the Pelham School District is clearly stated: Our mission is a commitment in concert with the entire Pelham community, to provide quality services to each student, parent and resident through planned, focused and continuous improvement of our education programs and practices. The Pelham School District is 230 years old. It originally was comprised of five schools, one for each segment of town, which were built and maintained by residents in each section. A wonderful history of the Pelham schools is contained in Reflections- A Pictorial History of Pelham, New Hampshire, 1746-1996.Today, Pelham schools look quite different. There are currently three schools in Pelham. With nearly 2100 students, Pelham is a school district that continues to grow each year, as families are attracted to beautiful southern New Hampshire and its sense of community. Pelham Elementary School was opened in 2002 replacing Sherburne Elementary School. This school is home to more than 900 students in grades one through five and it is the showplace of the Pelham schools. It is light, airy and well designed for community use. Together with supportive parents and community leaders, elementary students enjoy a wonderful arts, music and physical education curriculum in addition to an outstanding academic program.Pelham Memorial School, currently the oldest school, was built in 1965 and provides educational services to over 500 children in grades 6-8. It is at Pelham Memorial School that students become more involved in music programs and well-developed athletic programs. Students are introduced to foreign language, and other academic opportunities. Pelham High School, built in 1974, serves more than 650 students in grades 9-12. Pelham High School is home to the award winning Pythons and Pelham Pride. A visit to the school’s gymnasium and the main hallway reflects more than 100 banners and awards that have been awarded to this fine school. Students who are interested in vocational programs have the opportunity to take some of their coursework at Salem High School, Pinkerton Academy and Alvirne High School beginning in the junior year. Over the past few years, more than 82% of Pelham High students chose to enter an institution of higher learning. The drop out rate remains one of the lowest in the state of New Hampshire.
