The Hillsborough Township Public School System :Hillsborough Township is the largest municipality in Somerset County, covering an area of 54 square miles with approximately 37 thousand residents. Centrally located in New Jersey, Hillsborough is only 60 minutes west of New York or east of Philadelphia. This residential community encompasses Belle Mead, Blackwells Mills, Flagtown, Neshanic, and South Branch, with homes tucked into wooded lands or surrounded by rolling fields. Many residents operate businesses or are employed by neighboring corporations such as Ethicon, Exxon Mobil, Johnson & Johnson, Lucent, Merck, Ortho-McNeil, and Sanofi-Aventis. Within close proximity to the district are institutions of higher learning such as The College of New Jersey, Princeton University, Rider University, and Rutgers University, as well as a number of community colleges. The residents of Hillsborough Township are committed to quality education,and the excellence of township schools is often a key factor for those who select Hillsborough for their hometown.The Hillsborough Township Public School District, with an enrollment of approximately 7700 students, is a K - 12 district with six elementary schools (K-4), one intermediate school (5-6), one middle school (7-8), and one high school (9-12). NORTH PLAINFIELD BORO
North Plainfield, a diversified Somerset County district, serves approximately 3,288 pupils from Pre-K through Grade 12. The current budget is approximately 52 million. The district Central Office is located at Watchung School. The Department of Pupil Services is located at Harrison School and elementary Gifted and Talented classes are offered at Stonybrook School. North Plainfield High School, fully certified by the New Jersey State Department of Education and accredited by the Middle States Association, is proud of its special characteristics and the strength of the educational opportunities for students. With a student population of approximately 1,500 students in grades 7-12, the high school is able to provide a comprehensive curriculum with a variety of electives aimed to promote the development of each student’s individual potential. High school students may select courses that suit both their interests and potential career paths. Honors and advanced placement courses are available for those students who meet the criteria.igh school electives are offered in art, music, theater, technology, journalism, world language, and family and consumer science. The diversified curriculum also includes a Naval Junior ROTC program. The ROTC curriculum emphasizes citizenship and leadership development as well as topics such as the fundamentals of naval operations, seamanship, meteorology and navigation. Other curricular options include opportunities for independent study, community service, distance learning, a shared-time vocational program with Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School, and courses offered through a “concurrent enrollment” partnership for college credit with Raritan Valley Community College. The Middle School offers the 7th and 8th graders a “teaming” approach in their academic program. Each grade has three teams of teachers instructing in the core academic areas. The students also select a world language and elective programs including art, music, and technology.Somerset School educates all fifth and sixth grade students in the North Plainfield School District. Students from the district's three elementary schools come together for a truly unique intermediate school experience. As its mission, Somerset School is committed to preparing young, emerging adolescent students with the understandings and skills necessary to cope with their own changes from childhood to adolescence. Somerset School is equally committed to preparing them with the academic skills and knowledge essential not only for the transition into the middle and high school grades, but also for life-long achievement and success.Somerset follows an integrated curriculum that prepares students for the 7-12 high school experience. In addition to a strong core curriculum, Somerset School offers many innovative instructional units. A hands-on approach is utilized in science. Computer instruction is an integral part of the school's curriculum, producing computer literate students.Three elementary buildings, East End, West End, and Stony Brook, provide K-4 pupils with neighborhood elementary education and modern playground facilities. The University of Chicago mathematics program, an integrated language arts approach to communication skills, portfolio assessments, character education programs, and multi-cultural awareness characterize the current curricular thrust. The district also offers a pre-school program for four-year-olds for 2.5 hours a day during the school year at East End School and with several contracted North Plainfield pre-school providers.

SOMERSET COUNTY EDUCATIONAL SERVICES COMMISSION
Long before the concept of sharing services was an accepted practice among Somerset County municipalities and school districts, the Somerset County Educational Services Commission (SCESC) was engaged in providing a wide range of shared educational, administrative, and transportation support services to public and non-public schools.SCESC is a public educational agency, established under New Jersey Statute Title 18A, that serves as the catalyst for cooperative education, administration, and financing. SCESC implements programs and provides services which are not within financial reason for an individual district or school.The State of New Jersey mandates that school districts provide instruction and educational services to all students regardless of their level of need. The SCESC provides coordination, educational service delivery, and transportation for public and non-public schools in the county for all districts in need of services. For example, districts with relatively few special education students of various ages compounded by a lack of necessary infrastructure and support services (i.e., counseling, nursing), will have their needs met through SCESC services.In addition to qualified educators, SCESC supports student needs with fulltime counselors, including a Psychologist, Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC), Learning Consultant (LDTC), Social Workers (LCSW’S/ LSW’S, two nurses, School Resources Officers (SRO), and a part-time Psychiatrist. Somerville has an outstanding reputation as an excellent school district. It is my responsibility to continue this tradition and build upon it for further improvements, but I need your help in this process. I am hosting monthly brown bag lunches that are announced on the district calendar. The lunches are held from noon to 1 o'clock in the district conference room. The purpose of the brown bag lunch is to provide school community members with an opportunity to share their thoughts, opinions, and feelings about the programs and services offered in the Somerville Public School district.

Watchung Hills Regional High School is a comprehensive secondary school serving Warren Township, Long Hill Township, Green Brook Township, and Watchung Borough.
