With an enrollment of approximately 10,200 students, the Canton City School District is the largest in Stark County and one of the eight largest urban school systems in Ohio. It is also one of the largest employers in Stark County. The district comprises two high schools (each with a freshman academy), three middle schools, and 14 elementary schools. In addition, the district operates five alternative high schools, one alternative middle school and helps operate a Montessori school, a Digital Academy, and an Arts Academy. The Canton City Schools offer a wide variety of strong academic, vocational, athletic, fine arts and other extracurricular activities. Beginning in 1999, a state-driven building program, Design for the Future, propelled the construction of ten new school buildings -- Cedar Elementary, Worley Elementary, Allen Elementary, Gibbs Elementary, Belden Elementary, Summit Elementary, Harter Elementary, McGregor Elementary, Clarendon Elementary and Lehman Middle School. A local bond issue provided about 30 percent of the funding. Under the plan, nineteen schools are now new or renovated. With its population growing each year, and close to 3,600 students matriculating in 2012, Lake Local Schools serves Stark County students in Lake Township, the Village of Hartville, Uniontown and small portions of Portage and Summit Counties. More than 95% of Lake students pursue a college-preparatory course of study and continue their education beyond the high school level, although only 30% of the overall district population holds a college degree and only 35% of the population is employed in administrative or professional occupations. Lake students have traditionally scored well above the state average on standardized tests and Lake Local met 26 of 26 indicators on the School District Report Card for 2012 and a 108.0 Performance Index, receiving a rating of Excellent with Distinction. Lake Local is part of an innovative partnership between the district, Mercy Medical Center, the Stark County Library, the Chamber of Commerce, The YMCA and the Historical Society. Working together, these organizations provide a “Center Complex” for residents for learning, healthcare and recreation. The partnership is unique in that Lake students can benefit from educational opportunities at Mercy Medical, use the YMCA for fitness and swimming programs and the Library for reading and research.
Life Skills Center of Canton provides a teacher-assisted, computer-based learning environment in which students may work at their own pace. The staff of Highly Qualified Teachers and licensed professionals provides students with the individual attention they need to achieve academic success. Once a student has enrolled, the Life Skills experience begins with orientation, where the students are transitioned into our unique academic model. We individually assess each student’s needs and abilities and create a Life Skills Learning Plan uniquely designed to ensure that our students receive the necessary support and resources to graduate with a state-recognized high school diploma. Life Skills uses the Apex Learning Series for our core curriculum subjects. The Apex Learning Series is aligned with Ohio State Standards and incudes reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Life Skills also uses a number of supplemental curricula, including A+ Anywhere Learning System, OCIS, How to Master, Spark 3000, Read 180, GRADS Parenting Class, and career-based intervention and Life Skills training.
Our four elementary schools, grades K-5; Louisville Middle School, grades 6-8; and Louisville High School, grades 9-12; serve over 3,000 students. Our students consistently bring positive recognition to our community through their many academic and extra-curricular achievements. For two years in a row, the Louisville City School district has been rated “Excellent with Distinction” by the Ohio Department of Education. Our individual schools have also earned many state and national recognitions, including the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award for Fairhope Elementary.

Project REBUILD is a non-profit agency that re-engages at-risk youth to complete a high school diploma or GED and acquire marketable skills in construction technologies through the rehabilitation or construction of affordable housing.
The Stark County ESC had its inception in 1914 with the establishment by the Ohio Legislature of county boards of education. Currently, the ESC provides shared services to 14 local and 6 city school districts, one exempted village, and one career center in Stark, Carroll and Wayne Counties. Together these districts enroll over 60,000 students. The Stark County ESC is experienced in meeting the needs of a diverse population of students. There is a range in size of districts from 925 to 9,934 students with equally large ranges in minority population, special education population, and district wealth. Serving the needs of such diverse learners and districts in an age of scarce resources requires all of the constituents to collaborate and share services. Shared services provided by the Stark County ESC include special education and pre-school classes, psychologists and other related service providers, curriculum development and supervision, and professional development. The Stark County ESC serves as the fiscal agent for Character Counts, Help Me Grow, iCare, the Stark/Portage Area Computer Consortium, Stark County Family Council, Stark County Schools Council of Governments and State Support Team 9.
Summit Academy Canton Secondary is dedicated to educating students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Mild Autism/Asperger's Syndrome. We believe the philosophy that every student can learn, given the appropriate instruction for that child. Summit Academy Secondary School Canton school offers a wide variety of services to help students transition into adulthood. We partner with Canton City Schools to provide vocational education for students, including classes in Auto Tech, Industrial Plant Engineering, Video gaming, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts and Broadcast Media. We also have joined forces with Stark State College of Technology and the Post Secondary Enrollment Option to provide students with college classes and college credits while they continue to receive support from our staff.
Summit Academy Canton Elementary School is dedicated to serving the needs of all students; specializing in students with Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome. We adhere to the philosophy that all students can learn, given the appropriate instruction for that child. The Canton Elementary School serves students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. We offer small class sizes with no more than 18 students per class. Our teachers and instructional assistants are all highly qualified and follow the curriculum established by the State of Ohio.
