Greenville established its first public school in 1866, the year the city was rebuilt after its destruction during the Civil War. Since a separate municipal school district was created in 1884, it has been served by only eleven superintendents, all recognized for their educational leadership and innovation.

The district is the cornerstone of educational opportunity for all stakeholders. Parents and teachers are the most powerful influence of children. The student is responsible for his or her learning.

Education is a joint venture. We must work together to enable students in the Leland School District to thrive and achieve at their highest levels. I am proud to be leading the Leland School District as we “soar to achieve academic excellence”. Together we can do “whatever it takes” to reach our goals and meet the needs of our students and community.
