OHIO & WABASH VALLEY REG VOC SYS
The Ohio and Wabash Valley Regional Vocational System (OWVRVS) develops and fosters partnerships among schools, between business and education and between parents, communities and schools that are mutually beneficial. OWVRVS serves Edwards, Wabash, Wayne, White, Hardin, Gallatin, Saline and Pope Counties in Southeastern Illinois. OWVRVS is the Education For Employment System (EFE) 535 and belongs to the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Division of the Illinois State Board of Education. Mr. Dennis R. Smith serves as the System Director for OWVRVS. OWVRVS serves 13 high schools in the region. They write and maintain grants for the five Career and Technical Education programs in Illinois. These programs are: Agriculture Education, Business Marketing and Computer Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Health Science Technology, and Technology and Engineering (Industrial) Education. OWVRVS then distributes the grant funds to the school districts and purchases equipment, curriculum and software to provide creative and innovative programs that challenge students to gain the skills and meet the standards of performance that are needed to be successful in future careers. The Ohio and Wabash Valley Regional Vocational System is dedicated to providing quality CTE programs for students. Along with providing grant funds to the districts, the regional system also maintains all the data for the Illinois Student Information System (ISIS), provides in-service opportunities for CTE Teachers, School Guidance Counselors, Student Services Personnel, and School Administrators, and teaches Cooperative Vocational Education (Coop) Courses to Eldorado, Carrier Mills-Stonefort, Hardin County, Harrisburg, and Pope County High Schools.
