About School District: Perquimans County is located in a rural section of northeastern North Carolina, bordered by Gates County on the north, Chowan County on the West, the Albemarle Sound on the south, and Pasquotank County and the Little River on the east.Today, many travelers visit Perquimans County. They find water sports, fishing, hunting and history. You can find the oldest existing brick house in the entire state and the first land deed of record in North Carolina located in Perquimans County.Our county recreation department is a focal point of activities for old and young. Perquimans County actively supports several annual events, such as the Indian Summer Festival in September. Equestrians will be pleased to find horse and pony clubs and horse breeders in our county.There are five townships in the county - Bethel, Belvidere, Hertford, New Hope and Parksville. Located along the Albemarle Highway (US Route 17), Perquimans County is approximately a one-hour drive from Hampton Roads, Virginia and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The popular Outer Banks area provides beach sunning, surf fishing, Gulf Stream fishing and outdoor drama. Both areas offer job opportunities, retail shopping, entertainment, recreation and a great source of services.Perquimans County has a population of 11,500 people. Agriculture remains the principal industry, with corn, cotton, peanuts and soybeans as major crops.
