About School District: Lighthouse Community School (LCS) specializes in highly individualized, flexible, and intensive strategies to meet the educational needs of youth in the child welfare system. The school takes pride in employing unconditional positive approaches to foster a safe, stable community that develops effective social skills and enhances academic progress. LCS strives to be the permanent educational home for children in the child welfare system who need stability through multiple placements. LCS is responsive to caseworkers who place children in the school, understanding the challenges they face in meeting the educational needs of the children whom they serve. Lighthouse Community School effectively deals with social and emotional barriers. Eighty four percent of the students with a mental health diagnosis who have been in LCS all year show significant gain in employability and life skills. Even though 78% of the students enrolled in LCS had a DSM IV diagnosis such as ADHD or bipolar disorder, all of the students eligible to graduate (seven) did in fact graduate.
