The purpose of the Benton Stearns Education District is to provide educational opportunities
for pupils by increasing cooperation and coordination among the member districts. The purpose is accomplished through the creation of an Education District Board, which applies, receives and administers funding on behalf of the Member Districts. High quality staff provides
service with expertise in a multitude of skill areas. Improved learning for
students is an ongoing goal and function of this Education District.
Benton Stearns Education District was reorganized as an
Education District in October 1988 by an agreement between
six member districts ( see Education District Agreement and Bylaws).
From 1978 to 1988 the Education District was organized as a Joint
Powers Special Education Cooperative.

Home of the Eagles!
We are very proud of our mission of "educating one child at a time". This is an exciting time to be a student in our district, as we will be undergoing a major building project in the 2011-12 school year, which will update our facilities. US News and World Report honored Eden Valley-Watkins for the third year in a row in 2010-11 with a bronze medal for academic commitment to academic excellence. We will try to personalize your education with opportunities to build connections for the future. We are proud of our excellent test scores, winning extra-curricular activities, and strong support from our communities and people in our school district. Our goal is to make the 2011-12 our best year ever.

Teaching and learning. It is not just a slogan. It's what the women and men of St. Cloud Area School District 742 do. Our caring and committed staff members deliver learning for a lifetime to a diverse population of students in nine St. Cloud area communities. District 742 is the largest school district in Central Minnesota, proudly sharing the gift of education with nearly 9,500 students each school day.
Located 70 miles northwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul, we bring the world's ideas into every school room. Our licensed staff, 70 percent of whom have advanced degrees, teach challenging classes that use the latest technology as well as tried-and-true methods.
District 742 has eight elementary schools, two junior highs (6-8), two high schools (9-12), an alternative learning school, an early childhood center and a community education center. The high schools offer an array of AP courses and other opportunities to prepare students for post-secondary education. Students are encouraged to participate in their choice of athletic, scholarly and fine arts activities.
Meeting the needs of the entire community is fundamental. In partnership with parents, post-secondary educational institutions and businesses, the district is shaping curriculum, instruction and assessment to ensure all students are successful. Our Early Childhood Services and Community Education Center programs provide opportunities for district residents from newborn through adult, including citizenship and language classes that educate our newest residents. Our Special Education program delivers a full range of services to disabled students, from birth to age 21.
Residents show support for District 742 in many ways. They volunteer in our classrooms and media centers and participate in PTAs and Site Councils. The Local Educational Activities Foundation, a non-profit fundraising group, provides supplementary financial support for student activities.
Blending Old Society values and New Economy skills isn't easy. But we've done it. Our focus on teaching and learning insures that the magical dialogue between students and teachers informs every decision we make.
Teaching and learning. It's why we became educators. Learning for a lifetime. It's our promise to you.
