Preparing a child for success in tomorrow’s world is an awesome task. Here at Harlem Elementary School, that’s our goal: to help all students become successful by providing the best learning opportunities. We achieve this through the hard work of our veteran faculty and staff, our positive learning environment, good communications with parents, and strong instruction, standards, and technology.
With approximately 238 students in the 7th-12th grades, our teaching philosophy centers on RESPECT—for and between students, parents, faculty and staff. We care about the well being, academic and emotional, of all who come to learn in our classrooms, and are particularly dedicated to helping elementary students transition to junior high school (7th -8th grade). We also believe that discipline is a form of love, which means we hold our students accountable for their actions. All this helps us with our goal of again graduating 100% of our students toward a successful life path.
Hays/Lodge Pole School (HLP) is located at the heart of the Fort Belknap Reservation and is the only K-12 public school that is located on the reservation. The Fort Belknap Reservation is located in rural north central Montana and is home to more than three thousand members of the Gros Ventre and Assiniboine Tribes as well as an additional four thousand members living off the reservation . Hays/Lodge Pole is isolated from any major city or town of notable size. The nearest population center is Havre, Montana (11,000 people) which is located 86 miles from Hays/Lodge Pole School. Currently at HLP, 99% of the student body is of Native American decent. The town of Hays is mainly residential with a post office, the school, two small convenience stores/gas stations, and a community center. The town of Lodge Pole is identical in businesses and centers, but lacks a post office. These two communities and their children make up the student population of Hays/Lodge Pole Schools.
