  Missouri City School District is a small K-8 school district. Missouri City is in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area and is the only school district outside of the Kansas City School District to have participated in the Desegregation program, being involved from 1990 through 2002. Missouri City first received AAA status in 1987, becoming the smallest AAA school district in Missouri, and was presented this accolade by the United States Secretary of Education, William Bennett, in a ceremony at Missouri City School. As a result, Missouri City was propelled into the media spotlight and has been the focus of much media attention in the years since. Missouri City school has been highlighted in Newsweek Magazine, the New York Times and was the subject of a feature article in Reader's Digest. Missouri City School remains a progressive school district led by Jay Jackson, the Missouri City School District Superintendent and an open minded, progressive Board of Education.

  "A Tradition of Excellence" Mission Statement: Our mission is to develop responsible, successful citizens who make positive contributions to a changing global society. The Smithville R-II School District has earned "Distinction in Performance for High Achievement," the highest level of accreditation available to Missouri School districts. High Performing Students - Smithville students traditionally perform well above state and national averages on standardized achievement and college entrance exams. The Smithville R-II School District has four teachers who have been nationally recognized for successfully completing the prestigious and rigorous National Board Teacher Certification Program. Smithville High School is home to Darryl Johnson, the 2006-2007 Missouri Teacher of the Year. Smithville High School is a designated A+ School, which means qualifying graduates can receive free tuition to Missouri public community colleges and vocational/technical schools
