West Point Public Schools – Where learning is the POINT!.When one reads our Mission Statement, "Where learning is the POINT!" I'm often asked what exactly is the POINT? In short, the Point for our students is whatever is needed to make them successful. The POINT ensures students have the best possible resources to be academically successful. State-of-the-art facilities, investments in technology, texts, instructional materials, and most of all a group of committed adults, from the Board of Education, administrators, teachers and support staff, all of whom are working together to provide a high quality educational experience for each student. We know we are educating students who will be our future citizens in a complex world. They will need the capabilities to interact almost instantaneously with people everywhere on the planet. This means that students will need to learn more than just the essentials of reading, writing, and arithmetic. The POINT being, our students become engaged communicators within their own learning, tolerant of differences, and focused on being successful world citizens. The POINT is numerous arrows all taking different paths to reach the bull’s-eye, and each student’s target is different. That is why our mission is not a single vision, but a point of vision for each of our students. The POINT allows us to collaboratively find the most appropriate path for any one student; build upon that individual success; and in the end hit the individual bull’s-eye that meets the student’s unique needs.-Dr. Ted DeTurk,Superintendent of Schools. The school district shall not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, creed, age, marital status, sex or disability in its education programs, activities, or employment.
