VISION: Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools will provide every student with the foundation of knowledge, skills and character necessary to excel in higher education, work and life. We embrace and value a diverse student population and community. Different perspectives and backgrounds form the cornerstone of our strong public education system. We believe every student should be challenged to reach his or her peak performance. To do this, we offer exciting educational opportunities and stimulating learning environments. We focus on students as individuals, each with unique needs and capabilities. We welcome and encourage parents to be involved. We seek community ownership and support. And we constantly pursue new initiatives to help all students reach higher goals.
The mission of the Tennessee School for the Blind is to provide the diverse population of school aged students challenged by legal blindness with a world class education and the life skills necessary for success following graduation. These skills go beyond traditional academics and include orientation and mobility skills, the ability to successfully use adaptive technologies, maintaining independent living skills, and having the self confidence to be a self advocate. The school is also dedicated to supporting the learning community of teachers, parents, universities and others concerned with the development and education of children and adults challenged by severe vision loss.
