The mission of the Big Walnut Local Schools is to inspire and guide each student to his or her maximum potential. Located approximately 25 minutes northeast of downtown Columbus, Ohio, Big Walnut Local Schools provides instructional services for children who live in the greater Galena and Sunbury communities, including parts of Porter, Kingston, Trenton, Harlem, Genoa and Berkshire townships. Big Walnut is located in Delaware County – the fastest growing county in Ohio. With three elementary schools, a middle school, high school, and a partnership with the Delaware Area Career Center, the district serves over 3,000 students and employs more than 300 staff.

Our district is rated "Excellent with Distinction" on the Local Report Card, a rating earned by only 14% of Ohio school districts. Our Performance Index is at an all time high as well. Growing and learning are at the very heart of our work with students. We are also growing and learning with our staff. We are placing an increasing focus on our services for students who have been identified as gifted and talented as well as our work with special education students to ensure that all students maximize their potential.
