The Dyer County School System serves a 530 square mile area that includes the cities of Dyersburg, Newbern, and Trimble. More than 3,500 students are enrolled in Dyer County’s five PreK-5 elementary schools, two 6-8 middle schools, and one 9-12 high school. The Dyer County School System prides itself on its outstanding staff. Of the professional educators in the system, 45% have a Master’s degree or above and 92% are in the Career Ladder Program which evaluates and rewards outstanding educators in Tennessee. Dyer County has had several regional and state finalists in the Tennessee Teacher of the Year competition. In addition to fine educators, committed support personnel offer instructional assistance to those in the schools and classrooms; provide nutritious breakfasts and lunches to the students and staffs; keep the buildings clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and make the buses safe and dependable. In the Dyer County School System, teachers, administrators, and other staff work together closely to provide the best educational experience for each child. Basic education is of the utmost importance, but the educational needs of every child is the priority. The Dyer County School System takes pride in its many talented students, teachers, administrators, and support staff. The goal of our staff is to provide students with an education which will enable them to succeed in the highly competitive world in which we live. The Dyer County School System’s Mission Statement is based on the belief that all children can learn. We believe that they can gain knowledge and develop the skills necessary to be successful productive citizens.

DYERSBURG
Dyersburg is a community located in Dyer County in northwestern Tennessee. The Dyersburg City School System has a reputation of providing a quality education for the children of the Dyersburg/Dyer County community for more than 175 years. Since the first small, log schoolhouse was built on College Hill in 1833, our system has grown to include Dyersburg Primary School for grades K-2, Dyersburg Intermediate School for grades 3-5, Dyersburg Middle School for grades 6-8, Dyersburg High School for grades 9-12 and the Community Resource Center. The fact that all of the schools in the Dyersburg City School System are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools exemplifies our use of national benchmarks to improve the quality of education for students at all grade levels. The school system employs over 400 persons, with more than 250 of that number being classroom teachers. All teachers are licensed by the Tennessee Department of Education. In addition, almost 60 percent of our teachers have achieved their master's and/or doctorate degrees. Through its varied programs and activities, Dyersburg City Schools provides opportunities for all students to experience success. The needs of every student are met by providing programs such as special education, talented/gifted, Math and Reading interventions, before and after school homework help, Accelerated Reading, clubs, intermediate level intramurals, before and after school child care, vocational/technical education, transportation for all students, art, music and physical education at all levels. At Dyersburg High School all fifteen sports that are sanctioned by the TSSAA are offered. The Dyersburg City Schools cafeterias participate in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Offer vs Serve Program. Our system has the largest restaurant in town, serving in excess of 3000 for lunch each day.
