The Washington State Ferry system connects the island with the I-5 corridor and the Olympic Peninsula. Islanders also have the option of using the Deception Pass Bridge to reach the mainland. The Mission of the Coupeville School District, the learning hub for the community, is to educate our students to be: Competent Thinkers and Participants who demonstrate they can meet academic standards and be creative problem solvers; Confident Learners who are ready to apply their knowledge, understanding and skills to new challenges; Caring Individuals who make healthy choices, support the well-being of others, and contribute in positive ways to their community.
Oak Harbor schools have a hard-earned reputation for excellence, borne out by a graduation rate considerably higher than the state average, a career-tech program that is considered a model for others, and challenging AP courses in 12 subjects. Our graduates last year received more than $5.5 million in scholarship offers. This achievement is thanks to a remarkable group of teachers, motivated students, a caring community, and the foresight of a school board that set the goal of providing one computer for every five students.
