The Menominee Indian School District was established by the State of Wisconsin in 1976. It is located seven miles north of Shawano, Wisconsin. The Menominee Indian School District (MISD) boundaries encompass the Menominee Indian Reservation, making it the only public school district in the State to be located almost entirely on Indian lands. Although MISD works cooperatively with the Menominee Indian Tribe, it is a separate and distinct entity from the Menominee Indian Tribal School. MISD operates under State laws, guidelines and standards, which apply to all Wisconsin public schools systems. Our Mission: To provide a safe learning environment that ensures every child an opportunity to succeed culturally, intellectually, academically, emotionally, socially and physically?.
