IMANI EDUCATION CIRCLE CS
Serving over 450 students, Imani Education Circle Charter School students academically achieved the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the past three consecutive years. IEC integrates the Principles of the Nguza Saba (on which Kwanzaa is based), the Kemetic ethical system of MA’AT (balance, order, righteousness, justice, reciprocity, harmony, truth and peace), and the study of science, math and technology. To achieve this goal, IEC strives to move all students through a process called “Heshima to Hotep” (Respect to Peace). These principles guide students as they journey on to become the bright lights we need in our immediate and our extended community. IEC believes that students, often, not only do what we say, they also do what they see teachers and other adults do. Consequently, as the best teachers soar like eagles, their students soar with them. Both content and process are important in an African-Centered approach to teaching. By combining the best elements of the cultural centering process we feel we will find a new synthesis in our ability to teach children. Developing this cultural consciousness is a strategy which can help move our vision to reality. We have created a new paradigm called “THE IMANI WAY”. Each staff person has been included in the design and development of this new paradigm and will be held accountable to implement this “Way” through the school year. The “IMANI WAY” includes all of the strategies and behaviors that we have decided would move us to meeting the goals and objectives listed in our annual report, professional education plan and based on our goals and commitment to excellence for all of our children. Mission Statement: Imani Education Circle Charter School is dedicated to challenging the “Genius” in all of our children in a safe, caring, African-Centered Environment.
