The mission of Kaw Valley USD 321, a community united in purpose, is to guarantee that each student achieves academic and personal success through an educational system characterized by synergistic relationships; high quality curriculum; a dedicated, adaptable, caring staff in safe, unique learning centers.
Rock Creek U.S.D. 323 is located 15 miles from Manhattan, Kansas and Kansas State University. The District covers 230 square miles spanning the entire length of Pottawatomie County. The District is mostly rural and has two communities within its boundaries.
The population of the District is largely comprised of ranchers, farmers, and agricultural-related employees, as well as a large number of patrons employed outside the school district in Manhattan, Ft. Riley, and the surrounding area.
St. George Elementary School
Elementary buildings, pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, are located in both St. George (355 students) and Westmoreland (160 students). In 1991, two small high schools were consolidated into one 7-12 school, Rock Creek Jr./Sr. High School (currently 380 students). This process not only decreased operating costs in the District but greatly improved educational opportunities for students.
Westmoreland Elementary School
Rock Creek High School is a 3-A school that provides a full range of activities and athletics,including volleyball, football, basketball, wrestling, track, baseball, softball, forensics, debate, music and cross country.
Rock Creek USD 323 employs over 70 full and part-time teachers. Approximately 55% of the teaching staff have a masters degree or higher. Numerous teacher aides and support staff are also part of the education team.
With its eye on the future and its values molded by the past, Wamego offers a unique blend of progressive spirit and hometown tradition. A growing community of 5,000, Wamego is located in southwest Pottawatomie County—one of the fastest growing counties in Kansas.
Wamego is immersed in history with sites including Kansas’s only authentic stone Dutch Mill, the Oregon Trail, the home of Walter P. Chrysler, the Oz Museum and the Columbian Theatre.
A multitude of recreational options are available, including a beautiful 18-hole golf course; Wamego City Park, which includes a swimming pool, playground, fishing pond, and public tennis, basketball and pickleball courts; and a new recreation complex which includes four baseball/softball diamonds, two soccer fields, six tennis courts, a walking trail, and an active recreation program for youth and adults. Nearby federal reservoirs and state lakes offer excellent opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts as well.
Kansas State Department of Education recently announced the names of schools in Kansas that met the criteria for earning the “Standard of Excellence” (SOE) awards for the Kansas assessments (Spring 2011). USD 320 was awarded with a total of 17 SOE awards!
Each year, students in grades three through eight, and once in high school take both the math and reading Kansas assessments; students in grades four, seven and once in high school, take the science Kansas assessment.
