DaVinci Academy was the brainchild of a coalition of business, science, education, and community leaders early in 2003. The concept of creating a high school in downtown Ogden that provided the knowledge and skills students needed in the 21st century was compelling for many. After months of work, DaVinci Academy was chartered by the Utah State Board of Education and opened its doors in August 2004 with the mission of integrating science and the arts after the example of the original Renaissance man, Leonardo da Vinci. Naturally this progressed into a college ready, project-based curriculum that addresses the needs of the whole child. Our Motto: "Uniquely Dedicated to Student Success." Our Vision: The DaVinci Academy is a premier Charter School that superbly prepares students for ever-greater challenges and opportunities. Ogden Prep, or OPA, is the first charter school based in Ogden, Utah. It was built with the idea that children should have an affordable quality education in a safe, nurturing environment. A charter school allows parents a choice in free public education for their child. Ogden Prep offers a public school education but with private school quality. That includes uniforms, discipline, 25-child class sizes, and employee accountability (with the power to hire and fire as necessary). Parents are expected to volunteer and be active in the school, which has shown to be a major benefit to a child's interest in school and willingness to learn. An emphasis is placed on mastery of reading and math skills, with expectations for students held high. OPA, through a bilingual education, exposes all students in grades K-9 to Spanish as a second language. One of the goals of the school is to produce learners who are biliterate in both these languages. All curriculum course offerings are aligned with the Utah State Core Curriculum and UPASS tests. The curriculum addresses the needs of each language group including: primary language development, second language acquisition, development of cognitive language and literacy skills, and the development of cross-cultural understanding. The Mission of the Ogden preparatory Academy is to instill in all of its students a passion for learning, a readiness to address the challenges of the future, and the competence to thrive as productive and responsible citizens in our global community.

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) has been serving students with sensory impairments throughout Utah for over 100 years! The schools began in 1884 by the Territorial Legislature after a message from Governor Eli Murray which emphasized the need for a school for the deaf. Twelve years later in 1896, as Utah attained statehood, the members of the Constitutional Convention created the school for the blind. Recognizing the appropriateness of services for both visually and hearing impaired individuals, Utah's first lawmakers established the "Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind." USDB was given their first home at Ogden's old Territorial Reform School. The courageous spirit that provided a national model for deaf and blind education in 1884 is still forging the way in teaching the deaf and the blind to be self-reliant and contributing citizens of their communities. Outreach and mainstreaming efforts offer students an educational programs whereby each individual can progress toward his or her highest potential. Over the years, services provided by the USDB have continued to meet the changing needs of students and families through modern technology and teaching strategies. The commitment of the schools to high quality services for deaf and blind children is as great as it ever was. Today, the Schools for the Deaf and the Blind stand as a proud symbol of Utah's Educational heritage and enthusiastically contemplate the challenges and rewards that lie ahead in their second century!
