STATE FAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE
About School District: State Fair Community College, located in Sedalia, Mo., is a public, nonprofit college that serves the educational needs of 14 counties in west central Missouri. More than 4,000 students choose SFCC each year to take advantage of small classes, superb educators, a beautiful campus, and one of the lowest tuition rates and fees in the state. In addition to the Sedalia campus, classes are offered in Clinton, Lake of the Ozarks, Warsaw, at Whiteman Air Force, and online.
SFCC is accessible and flexible, offering classes in many convenient formats—traditional classroom courses, including late afternoon and evening classes; summer sessions; fast-track courses; 10-day interim classes; “certified job ready” classes; hybrid classes; and more than 450 online classes, including several complete degree and certificate programs online. Other programs include customized training for business and industry, hundreds of noncredit Lifelong Learning classes and free adult literacy, GED preparation and English as a Second Language classes.
Whether you want a degree that can get you into the workforce quickly or a degree that will transfer to a four-year college, we have what you need. We offer more than 30 degree and certificate programs in the arts and sciences, business and career and technical fields, plus an Associate of Arts degree for transfer to a four-year college and an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree.
New programs
We’re always adding new programs and degrees to meet both student and industry demands. Pending anticipated approval by the Missouri Coordinating Board of Higher Education, SFCC will offer four new degree programs and two new professional certificates this fall: an Associate of Science degree in Engineering; Associate of Applied Science degrees in Metals Technology, Behavioral Intervention with Autism Specialty and Agriculture with Sustainable Agriculture Specialty; and professional certificates in Behavior Intervention and Sustainable Agriculture.
SFCC has agreements with four-year schools that ensure credit earned here transfers to those institutions. There also are specific agreements with Central Methodist University that provides bachelor’s degree programs at Sedalia, Clinton, Lake of the Ozarks, and online; Drury University for on-ground and online programs; University of Central Missouri; and University of Missouri. CMU and UCM also offer dual admission through SFCC.
Great options for high school students
SFCC also offers terrific options for high school students, like dual credit and advanced credit courses. The State Fair Career and Technology Center (SFCTC) on the Sedalia campus offers training in nine technical programs for high school juniors and seniors. Since 1998 SFCC has participated in the state’s A+ scholarship program, which pays for tuition at Missouri community colleges for high school students who qualify.
Fine art exhibitions, performances and athletic events
SFCC prides itself on providing cultural enrichment for the surrounding community through our flourishing theatre, music and fine arts programs. The Daum Museum of Contemporary Art on the Sedalia campus has more than 800 works in its permanent collection, including paintings, drawings, prints, works in clay, and sculpture. Our athletic program features men’s and women’s basketball and a spirit squad, and the college sponsors numerous special events and programs throughout the year for students and community members.
Taxing district and service area
The taxing district, designed in 1966, includes most of Benton and Pettis counties. The city of Otterville was added to the district by annexation in 1985. In 1995, state legislation expanded the college's service area to include Carroll, Cooper, Moniteau, Cole, Morgan, Miller, Johnson, Henry, Saline, St. Clair, Hickory, and Camden counties.
Accreditation
SFCC has been affiliated with the North Central Association (NCA) of Colleges and Schools since it was founded. Correspondence status was granted in 1968. Full accreditation was granted in 1976, 1981, 1988, and 1999. SFCC became accredited through admission to the NCA Higher Learning Commission's Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) in August 2005 and continues to be accredited on an annual basis.
The SFCC Foundation
The SFCC Foundation supports the mission of the college and has assets of more than $8 million. The foundation manages more than 50 endowed scholarships and funds, which annually provide almost $70,000 in scholarship aid to SFCC students and support to the college.
Since its beginning in 1968, SFCC’s philosophy has always been "students first." We’re here for you—to guide you, support you and help you realize your dreams. Wherever you’re going, SFCC will help get you there!
