About School District: The primary goal of education in the Butler Area School District is the maximum individual development and adjustment of each student for effective living in a democratic society, through the development of concepts and generalizations essential to an understanding of human relationships. Butler Area School District will not tolerate statements or behavior by any member of the School District which insults, degrades, harasses, or stereotypes any other person on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, handicap, physical condition, socioeconomic background, ethnic or national origin, or religion in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the laws of the United States. To bring this philosophy into practice, it is necessary to develop each student's ability to think rationally for the solution of life's problems. If such thinking is to be stimulated to its fullest extent, a unified, comprehensive curriculum must be made available. All curricular activities must be planned to encourage the acquisition of skills which will provide the means for acquiring and sharing ideas. Attention must be given to the development of clear understandings as well as to desirable attitudes and behavioral patterns related to civic responsibility. An appreciation for the fine and practical arts must be encouraged. Experiences which will contribute to future economic efficiency must be integral parts of curriculum planning. Relatively equal emphasis must be attached to programs to prepare both the young people who are anticipating further education as well as those for whom public school is a terminal educational experience. Experiences which foster the maximum growth of each student are essential. Equal acceptance and appropriate opportunities for the gifted, the average, and the less able must be provided.
