ANDOVER
Phillips Academy, a residential secondary school, seeks students of intelligence and integrity from diverse cultural, racial, socioeconomic and geographic backgrounds. The school’s residential structure enables faculty to support students in their personal, social, and intellectual development. The academic program fosters excellence in all disciplines within the liberal arts tradition. Faculty members guide students in mastering skills, acquiring knowledge, and thinking critically, creatively and independently. The school strives to help young people achieve their potential not only intellectually, but also artistically, athletically, and morally, so that they may lead responsible and fulfilling lives. The Academy is committed to establishing a community that encourages people of diverse backgrounds and beliefs to understand and respect one another and to be sensitive to differences of gender, ethnicity, class, and sexual orientation. In its programs, the school seeks to promote a balance of leadership, cooperation, and service, together with a deeper awareness of the global community and the natural world. Andover’s 1778 Constitution charges the Academy to prepare “Youth from every quarter” to understand that “goodness without knowledge is weak…yet knowledge without goodness is dangerous.” This obligation challenges students in mind, body and spirit to see beyond themselves and to go beyond the familiar; to remain committed to developing what is finest in themselves and others, for others and themselves.

BLUESTEM
The present Bluestem High School was erected in 1973. During that time, Kenneth T. Pharr was the superintendent. Simpson and Son, Inc. of Wichita, were the General Contractors and Prigmore and Allen of El Dorado, were the Architects. When the school was first built, the shop/art rooms were not connected to the main building. As the school's population grew, so did the building. In 1991, the addition of the "B" wing hall added six classrooms and attached the shop/art building to the main building. At that time, L. Gerald Schuetz was the superintendent. Walz, Harman and Huffman, were the contractors and once again, Prigmore and Allen were the architects.

DOUGLASS PUBLIC SCHOOLS
The community of Douglass has much to offer. The appeal of a small town and the convenience of the Wichita metropolitan area provide the best of both worlds. The City of Douglass provides many excellent educational, cultural and recreational opportunities. Available facilities include a library, museum, swimming pool, tennis courts, running track, softball and baseball complexes, a large park, five churches and other civic and community-oriented clubs and organizations. The majority of the work force in Douglass commutes to Wichita and is employed by Boeing, Spirit, Beechcraft, Cessna, aircraft support companies and other manufacturing companies located in the area. Douglass USD #396 is located in rural south-central Kansas. The City of Douglass is home to 1,700 residents according to the 2010 census data. Douglass is located in Butler County, which is the largest county by area in the State of Kansas, filling 1,446 square miles. Butler County is home to 13 cities and towns, including Douglass. The cities and towns range in size from 129 residents in Cassoday to El Dorado at 13,021 residents, for a total of 65,880 county residents. The populace resides in cities and towns as well as in 29 townships and nine unincorporated communities. The county also houses nine school districts, including Douglass, which is the third smallest district with 60% fewer students than the largest district in the county. Almost half of the county’s residents, 30,381, live in three cities: El Dorado, Andover, and Augusta. These three cities are also home to the three largest school districts in the county and are located within 30 minutes of each other in the west central region of the county. Douglass is in the far southwest region, located 15 miles south of Augusta and Andover. Douglass Unified School District is recognized for quality education in the State of Kansas. All of our school buildings are fully accredited by NCA/CASI, which is a division of AdvancED. The district has attained the State Standard of Excellence in various areas of study. The Board of Education has made the commitment to keep class sizes low. Students flourish from individualized instruction. Technology is vital in the education of our students, and Douglass has made the commitment to provide a one-to-one laptop initiative for students in grades 9-12 and computer labs in the elementary and middle schools. The opportunities are endless for the students of the district. The district is a member of the Butler County Special Education Cooperative, which consists of nine Unified School Districts in South Central Kansas. Douglass is also a member of the South Central Kansas Education Service Center, which includes 35 member schools.
