Georgetown-South Otselic Central School District is located at 125 County Road 13A South Otselic, NY. The school district came about due to the merger of two school districts; know as Georgetown Central School and the South Otselic Central School. The new school district was completed in 1970 and today is called Georgetown-South Otselic Central School. This school district provides education to grades from K through 12 in Chenango County. Now the school system accommodates students from several other communities such as Plymouth, Beaver Meadow, North Pharsalia, North Pitcher, Lincklean, the Crumb Hill area of DeRuyter, Otselic, Smyrna, Lebanon, Erieville, Eaton and West Eaton.The mission of the district is Essentials for success in school, at home and in life: Every Student Succeeds.
Through the use of all available resources, it shall be the Mission of the Norwich City School District to produce productive citizens who can successfully collaborate and compete in a global society... to develop and provide for each enrolled student a program of experiences, activities and services designed to ensure maximum opportunities for life-long intellectual, psycho-social, personal and physical growth. The school district is made up of original schools from Lebanon, Poolville, Earlville, Smyrna, North Norwich, and Sherburne. Grades K-5 are located in a new elementary facility located adjacent to the Middle-High School in Sherburne. Seven Board members are elected for three-year terms to oversee the educational system.Early childhood education is literacy based. The individual skill level of each child is determined upon entry to school. The program is structured to provide all support for all students based on their level and their learning needs.The district's elementary school has a comprehensive program in all academic areas, providing for acceleration and remediation. Special emphasis is placed on integrating the reading and writing processes. Laboratory instruction in Science is emphasized in the elementary curriculum.
