Educational Service Unit #1 is one of
seventeen ESUs statewide that
provide services to Nebraska children
through local school districts. ESU
#1 serves children through K-12
schools in Cedar, Dakota, Dixon,
Knox, Thurston and Wayne counties
in Northeast Nebraska.

On January 16, 2010, the Wakefield School Board along with the school administration met to discuss goals and give direction in the area of strategic planning for the district. The purpose of the retreat was to refine areas in which the board of education could play a part in advancing the students and district as a whole.The four goals the school board discussed are as follows:1.Wakefield Community School will provide educational opportunities that meet the individual needs of students and staff.2.Wakefield Community School will monitor and address items which are seen as a physical plant need on a one to five year basis.3.Wakefield Community School will support and encourage communication with staff, parents, patrons, and students.4.Wakefield Community School will make an efficient use of resources.

Goals-The Wayne Community Schools Board of Education will actively support the efforts of the superintendent, district staff, and families to ensure continuous achievement for all students as 21st century learners.2.The Wayne Community Schools will provide a safe and inclusive climate across the district by providing quality facilities and demonstrating fiscal accountability.3.The Wayne Community Schools will ensure effective communication and promote involvement throughout the district.
