SC PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL DISTRICT

The South Carolina Public Charter School District (SCPCSD) was created through the South Carolina Charter School Act. The legislation created a legitimate avenue for parents, teachers, and community members to take responsible risks and create new, innovative, and more flexible ways of educating children within the public school system. The goal of any charter school is to encourage academic excellence, educational improvement, and cultural diversity in South Carolina. DARLINGTON 01

The Darlington County School District ranks third in South Carolina in terms of academic achievement, as measured by the South Carolina Department of Education. The Darlington County School District has the second highest graduation rate in South Carolina (93%), well above the state’s average graduation rate of 74.9%. The Darlington County Institute of Technology ranks 6th among the state’s 39 career centers (up from 14th last year). They earned an “Excellent” on their 2012 report card. Of the 22 schools in the district, eleven schools have received the highest rating of “Excellent”. The Darlington County School District is also rated “Excellent”. Ninety-six percent of DCSD schools are rated “Average” or higher on the annual report cards from the South Carolina Department of Education.
SPARTANBURG 02

Spartanburg County School District Two is a premier, growing Upstate South Carolina school district tucked in a picturesque and tranquil area of the Piedmont lying in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Foothills. Encompassing the city of Chesnee, the community of Boiling Springs, and the intervening rural regions (approximately 135 square miles in the northern portion of Spartanburg County from I-85 to the North Carolina state line), the district has 58,300 residents and a student population of 10,050. LEXINGTON 02

Lexington County School District Two is a diverse school district located in West Columbia, South Carolina, just across the Gervais Street Bridge from the Capitol City. We serve the cities of West Columbia, Cayce, Springdale, Pine Ridge, and South Congaree. Mission (What We Do): As Champions for Children, in partnership with our community, Lexington School District Two will provide superior educational opportunities that enable all students to achieve success. Vision (Where We Want to Be): Lexington Two will be nationally recognized as “Champions for Children” in preparing students for college and career readiness.
SUMTER 02

Sumter School District was formed on July 1, 2011 by consolidating Sumter School Districts Two and 17. Mr. Randolph D. Bynum, Sr. serves as the district’s first superintendent. Sumter School District enrolls more than 17,000 students in grades preschool through 12 and employs over 3,000 staff members. The district includes 16 elementary schools, seven middle schools, three high schools, two alternative learning programs, and the Early Head Start program. The International Baccalaureate Diploma and Middle Years programs are available at Sumter High School and Bates Middle School, respectively. All of the district’s schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and by the State Department of Education. A wide range of educational opportunities are offered to students. All elementary children receive advanced training in technology in addition to fundamental instruction in reading, science, social studies, language arts, health and physical education. The academic program at the middle schools is exploratory in which students may schedule a variety of courses. In addition to the required courses, electives are offered in vocational programs, music, home economics, art, band, and more. With the advice of parents, teachers, and counselors, a carefully planned proposal for a high school program is developed to reflect future needs and interests of each eighth grade student. The district’s three high schools operate on a 4X4 block schedule that gives students the opportunity to earn more credits while in high school. The high school curriculum not only challenges students who go on to college, but also provides job-ready skills to those who enter the work force after graduation through its varied vocational courses and its partnership with the Sumter County Career Center. High school students have the opportunity to take advanced courses in addition to college level courses through Central Carolina Technical College and USC Sumter. Students at all grade levels can also take advantage of a wide range of extracurricular activities that enhance their learning environment.

Since 1968, Chesterfield County has operated a single school district which now consists of two primary schools, seven elementary/intermediate schools, three middle schools, and four high schools. Total enrollment in the county's public schools for 2009 is estimated to be 7888 students. "The mission of Chesterfield County School District is to prepare all students to be productive citizens in a changing society by continuously improving and implementing educational processes with ongoing community support."

Located in the northwest corner of York County, South Carolina, the Clover School District is home to some of the state's most academically sound schools from elementary to high school. With more than 6,600 students, the district is the third largest in the county behind Rock Hill and Fort Mill. NEWBERRY 01

The School District of Newberry County is the second largest employer in the County and the sole local education agency serving Newberry County. Our mission is to engage students at all levels in educational experiences that ensure success and life-long learning. In several of our elementary schools, we offer pre-kindergarten and Montessori for children from age three through grade five. Montessori education practice helps children to develop creativity, problem-solving, social, and time-management skills. Our middle schools are working with students to develop individualized programs of study that are implemented in our high schools. Learning opportunities for our middle school students include Gateway to Technology that emphasizes math, science, and technology. In our high schools we strive to provide a comprehensive curriculum to address individual needs of all of our students. This framework design allows for an integrated, multi-dimensional approach to planning that helps students become successful learners for high school and beyond. The curriculum and instruction is provided in five areas of study: Arts and Humanities, Business Management and Information Systems, Engineering, Manufacturing and Industrial Technology, Health Science and Human Services and Public Services. We provide a dual credit program with local colleges and advance placement programs allowing students to gain college credit during high school. The competency-based curriculum at the Newberry County Career Center enables students to acquire skills and knowledge for gaining employment and reflects the employment needs of local businesses and industries. We provide specialized skills, hands-on training, and appropriated workplace ethics.

District One Schools, Spartanburg, is located in the northwest section of Spartanburg County about 10 miles from the city of Spartanburg. It is comprised of an area approximately 120 square miles and has an estimated population of 30,000. The School District currently operates five elementary schools, three junior high schools, two senior high schools, and a shared career center. The student enrollment is approximately 5,100 students. The School district and all schools are fully accredited by the South Carolina Department of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement. Florence County School District Three, located in lower Florence County, is the second largest of the five school districts in the county.
