BROOKINGS SCHOOL DISTRICT 05-1

District Goals: - Improve communication among home, school, and community. - Provide quality education to prepare students for their futures. - Promote respect and responsibility among all individuals. The Brookings Public School District was organized in April 1879. A long term commitment to quality facilities and a continuous process of developing long-ranged plans for meeting the program and facility needs is important to the district. Carefully planned maintenance and remodeling activities have ensured effective use of all the buildings. Use of technology is an important tool in the educational development of students from elementary to high school. Networking between buildings is complete, and Internet access is available in all classrooms and offices throughout the district. Electronic communication with the State Department of Education for student records provides accurate information and efficiency in submitting necessary state reports. Parent/teacher communication has been enhanced by the use of the homework hotline and e-mail messaging. The Brookings School District has consistently maintained composite scores on the standardized achievement tests in the average to above average range. As many as eight National Merit Scholar finalists have been identified in a single year. Strong academic programs as well as comprehensive programs of cocurriciular activities and organizations are provided at the middle and high school levels.

PIERRE SCHOOL DISTRICT 32-2

The Pierre School District was established in 1892. Statement of Philosophy: It is the intent of the Pierre Board of Education that each student who attends the Pierre Public Schools be encouraged to develop his or her academic and social potential to its fullest. TODD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT 66-1

The Todd County School District is within the exterior boundaries of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe’s reservation, home of the Sicangu Lakota. Todd County covers an area of approximately 1,400 square miles (27 by 52 miles) in south central South Dakota. The land is primarily prairie and was once the winter range of the American Bison – the buffalo. The landscape is arrayed with sand hills, canyons, and 20,000 acres of forest, and rich with wildlife: antelope, prairie dogs, deer, wild turkeys, coyote, grouse, and pheasants. Bald eagles and golden eagles are frequently sighted, as are elk and even the rare, black-footed ferret. The District service area includes a number of small residential communities – Mission and Rosebud are the largest – with a total population of about 10,000 people. Our Mission: The Todd County School District is a partner with families, communities, the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, and other educational groups. We pledge to prepare our students for success academically, socially, culturally, and spiritually in an ever changing world.

The Dakota Valley School District only occupies 31.6 square miles and is located in the extreme southeast corner of South Dakota, bounded on the east by the Big Sioux River, and on the west and south by the Missouri River. VERMILLION SCHOOL DISTRICT 13-1

VISION: Creating a successful community of engaged learners through innovative and customized education. MISSION: To empower all students to maximize their success in our global community. The Vermillion School District believes that quality education begins with classroom leadership. Because of that belief, the district provides research-based trainings and monitors student progress. Vermillion Schools provide professional development for teachers to keep abreast of the most current and best practices in education. The district provides five in-service days, and encourages teachers to pursue opportunities that deepen content knowledge and strengthen classroom practices. 98% of Vermillion educators are rated as highly qualified. Average years of experience among Vermillion teacher is 16 years. 20% of Vermillion teachers hold advanced degrees. The Vermillion School District has an 89% graduation rate average over all socio-economic groups. The average composite ACT score for those high school students taking the test (83% of seniors) was 22.9. Vermillion students exceeded the state average in all areas of the ACT test. Vermillion students consistently score better than the state average in Dakota State Test of Educational Progress (STEP). Vermillion Schools strive for a quality educational experience for students. A student information database can be accessed by staff, parents, and students. Teachers are encouraged to integrate technology into the curriculum.
MADISON CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT 39-2

The Canton School District includes the city of Canton, South Dakota, population 3,110, residential tracts and rural farms. Located in the southeast corner of South Dakota, in Lincoln County, the district encompasses 191 square miles and was established in 1870. Mission Statement: Helping Each Student Achieve Success. The primary mission of our school is to provide all students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to graduate from high school and successfully complete a post secondary degree. A focus on character and leadership development, along with high academic and behavioral expectations, sets the Canton School District apart from other schools in the Sioux Falls area.

BON HOMME SCHOOL DISTRICT 04-2

Bon Homme School District is located in Bon Homme County in Southeastern South Dakota. Tabor, Tyndall, Springfield, and the Bon Homme Hutterische Colony are the communities that comprise the Bon Homme School District. The communities vary in size, but each plays a part in giving the district a diverse blend of social, economic, and cultural personality. The district covers 317 square miles with the Missouri River as the southern boundary. The district has seven attendance centers. The Bon Homme School District is extremely proud of its dedicated and experienced staff. Many of the teachers in the district, both past and present, have received awards and accolades for their work, including the Bon Homme Teacher of the Year Award, the Outstanding High School Science Teacher Award from the School of Mines and Technology, the Distinguished Service Award in Mathematics presented by SDCTM, an award for contributions to the Civil Engineering Profession from the American Society of Civil Engineers, the South Dakota Reading Council’s Literacy Award, and the National Federation of State High School Association Speech-Debate-Theatre Outstanding Educator Award for South Dakota.

The Garretson School District is located in the southeast part of South Dakota approximately 20 minutes northeast of Sioux Falls just north of I-90 and covers over eighty-eight square miles along the Minnesota border. Garretson has a population of 1165. The Garretson School District serves approximately 245 elementary students, 106 middle school students, 167 high school students and 2 alternative school pupils. With a professional staff comprised of a Superintendent, 6-12 Principal, K-5 Principal and 33 teachers, the school has a 1:15 teacher–to-student ratio.
